6 reasons why YOU should take part in Gaisce during TY!

 Starting Transition Year this year? You’re in for an unforgettable year…TY is a great time to try some new activities, discover new passions and make new friends. A brilliant way to do all this and more, is to take part in Gaisce – The President’s Award.

Gaisce is an Award that encourages you to find your passion, become more active and get involved in your local community. Gaisce is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland to young people in Ireland to dream big and realise their potential.

You can start your Gaisce journey in TY with the Bronze Gaisce Award. 

Not sure if Gaisce is for you? We’ve put together our 6 reasons why should rise to the Gaisce challenge:

 

 

 

1. You make new friends 

Taking part in Gaisce is an amazing way to meet new people and make lifelong friends. You’ll be joining plenty of new groups and taking part in new activities, so there are great opportunities to meet new people.

 

2. To learn a new skill 

Ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar? Or even learn how to design and make clothes? With Gaisce, now is your chance to try something new. By taking part in the Bronze Award challenge, you will have 13 weeks to learn how to become the next James Bay or Coco Chanel.

 

 

3. Help out your local community

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of pride and fulfilment that comes from giving back to your local community. Is there a group or charity in your local area that you’d like to help out with? If you’re stuck for ideas on ways to get involved in your local community, talk to your Gaisce PAL or have a look at our website for inspiration.

 

4. To get active!

As part of your Bronze Award challenge you will take part in a physical activity. This is a great chance to pick up a new activity that you’ve always wanted to try! If you don’t see yourself as someone traditionally sporty there are plenty of different options to try, like yoga or a dance class.

 

 

5. Go on an adventure

One of the highlights of TY for so many is the Gaisce Adventure Journey. An outdoor adventure with your fellow Gaisce participants for two days and one night. Fear not, you won’t be eating bugs and sleeping in the wilderness, but you will embark on a journey that you’ll never forget. It’s a great opportunity to embrace your spirit of adventure and get out of your comfort zone!

 

6. To achieve something worthwhile 

At the end of TY and your Gaisce Bronze challenge, you will have accomplished something amazing, and will have the medal to prove it! You will have learned a new skill, undertaken a new physical activity, helped your community and taken part in an overnight adventure journey. A Gaisce Award is a fantastic addition to your C.V – it shows employers that you have the motivation and confidence to set your own skills and work hard to achieve them. A Gaisce Bronze Award also gives you a stepping-stone to continue on your Gaisce journey with the Silver and Gold Award.
