January is TOUGH, right?

It’s hard to get motivated, and with COVID-19 restrictions and uncertainty, you and might feel pretty isolated.

But we can still care for each other virtually. ❤️ Check in on friends and reach out if you need to just have a chat.

The great gang over at @text50808 are also there to chat to at any time if you need support.

Gaisce Award is delighted to be featured in the upcoming #Changemakers series airing on @RTÉOne on Monday January 24th @ 8.30pm.

The series will showcase the remarkable and lasting public impact of leading research projects by eight universities in Ireland in areas such as children’s health, health technology, education, youth justice, gender equality and inclusion, as well as the environment.

Dr. Sarah Sortori was the research lead for a project with Maynooth University. The Story Exchange Project brought together two seemingly disparate groups; university students and young people in custody, using the Gaisce – The President’s Award framework in an attempt to promote understanding and break down barriers.

Young people were brought together in Mountjoy Prison over 6 months for peer to peer empathy-building workshops, aiming to challenge stereotypes and create a sense of shared endeavour.

All participants were able to use their participation on the project towards obtaining a Gaisce Award, Ireland’s leading self-development programme for young people aged 14 -25 which enhances confidence and wellbeing through participation in personal, physical and community challenges.

Gaisce –The President’s Award is a self-development programme for young people aged 14 -25 which has been proven to enhance confidence and wellbeing through participation in personal, physical and community challenges.

It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and realise their potential.

Gaisce Awards are non-competitive and self-directed: participants choose their own activities, goals and projects with the support of their President’s Award Leader (or PAL). There are more than 1,000 President’s Award Leaders working or volunteering in a variety of organisations all across Ireland, supporting and mentoring Gaisce participants.

Gaisce was established in 1985 – the UN International Year of Youth – as the national youth award and Ireland’s highest recognition of a young person’s achievement and voluntary contribution. To date, more than a quarter of a million young people have achieved their Gaisce Award. And counting …

Today more than 20,000 young people under 26 register to pursue their own Gaisce Award journey annually.
