Here are the highlights from #PALCON2025, where President`s Award Leaders came together for a full day of reflection, connection and recognition. We revisited the impact of Gaisce over the past 40 years, shared learning with fellow PALs and celebrated leaders receiving a Civic Merit Award for their service to young people. Thank you for the work you do and for shaping the Gaisce journey in communities across Ireland!
Meet Dermot Plunkett, teacher at the Royal School Cavan. Dermot has been part of the school since 1993 and became a President`s Award Leader in 1998 while working with Transition Year students.
For more than two decades he has encouraged young people to build leadership, get involved in activities, volunteer and try new things. Dermot uses Gaisce to help students grow in confidence and work together. As one former Awardee said, “I would not have achieved some things I’ve achieved today without his support.”
Dermot’s students remember the long walks, the conversations and the sense of direction they gained. Many have gone on to complete their Gold Awards and even meet the President along the way.
His dedication and enthusiasm have shaped countless young people and enriched school life in Royal School Cavan.

Meet Principal Edward McEvoy from @tullcoll. Edward became a President`s Award Leader in 1987 after looking for something that would support young people and help them build self-confidence.
Over the years, he has guided generations of students, from setting up a kayak club to helping young people stay on the right path when they needed support. As one former Awardee said, “I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for you, Eddie.”
More than a thousand young people in Tullamore College have completed Gaisce since 2012, an incredible impact on the school and community!
