Essential PAL Information 2018

Participant Registration: Participants must register for their Gaisce award before undertaking any Gaisce activities. Gaisce activities will not be backdated so please ensure young people register under their PAL before they begin. The number of weeks between registration and completion must comply with the Gaisce requirements e.g. min. 26 weeks for Bronze and Silver Awards. PALs are responsible for ensuring that all participants register online and that registration fees are paid promptly to Gaisce-The President’s Award.

Lapsed participants: Participants who do not pay registration fees within 60 days of registering will be automatically lapsed, this means they will no longer appear on your screen and they cannot access their accounts (they and you will receive notifications that payment should be made within 30 days). Please contact our Administration team if this occurs (01 6171999).   Please ensure that participants do not register more than once on the system (lapsed accounts can be reactivated by Gaisce Administration team to facilitate payment).

Data Protection

As you may be aware, new legislation (GDPR) came into force earlier this year.  Our On-line system now gives you, and participants the “opt-in” choice for communication of marketing and events.

The enactment of recent GDPR legislation has resulted in changes to EU-wide data privacy rights and responsibilities.

In the normal course of delivering the Gaisce programme it is necessary for the Gaisce team to contact you with information and updates, and we will continue to do so.

The Gaisce team would however also like to keep you informed with regards to events and activities that we feel would be of value and interest to you, but understand that you may not wish to receive such communications. In order to specify your preferences for how you wish us to communicate with you for such events/activities, click on ‘my profile’ on the online system or send an email to info@gaisce.ie

Medal (Silver & Bronze) dispatch

Our online system has a new tick box on your Home Page – “Do Not Dispatch Awards yet”.  This is to help minimise the number of multiple deliveries of awards.  If you or your colleague PALs in your organisation know that you still have more participants to sign off for awards, tick the box so that the awards won’t be dispatched until you or one of your colleague PALs have unticked the box (you should receive awards  within 10 business working days).

Children First: National Guidance outlines

Children First: National Guidance outlines that all organisations working with children and young people should create a culture of safety that promotes the welfare of children and young people availing of their services. Most of these organisations will provide ‘relevant services’ as defined in the Children First Act 2015 and will have specific statutory obligations under the Act. The Guidance also outlines best practice procedures in child safeguarding that all organisations dealing with children and young people should consider. This is in addition to any statutory obligations under the Act.

Following the enactment and commencement of the Children First Act 2015, Gaisce requires all PALs new and current to undertake the Children First e-learning programme and show evidence of completing the same or an equivalent. If through your own work or volunteering you have already undertaken the Tusla e-learning module, please forward on a copy or photo of the certificate to Gaisce. If you have not already undertaken the module or an equivalent, you will be required to do so in order to continue on in your role as PAL or complete the PAL process. If you have any questions regarding this requirement, please do not hesitate to contact me.
