On Saturday 2nd December 2023, we were honoured to be joined by seven young people from Ukrainian Action in Ireland; a charity established in response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine to foster Irish-Ukrainian friendship. They took part in Gaisce’s Wavelength programme, aimed at ensuring that young people seeking asylum or refugee status in Ireland can participate in Gaisce.: Pavlo, Polina, Khristina, Damir, Oleksands and Emma were presented with their Bronze Award and Vlad with his Silver Award at an Award Ceremony held in the Gaisce headquarters at Ratra House in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Â
The ceremony was hosted by our CEO Avril Ryan and presented by Gaisce Council members Samantha Briody and Vincent Teo. In attendance were the Gaisce awardees, their families, host families from Ireland and Elizabeth, the groups President’s Award Leader (PAL). Â
The event was filled with fun, laughs and some tasty Ukrainian food!Â
We were delighted to have the opportunity to recognise the accomplishments of all the Awardees who have dedicated themselves to contributing to their local communities. All six Gaisce Awardees have contributed to the community in many ways including working with Ukrainian Action and becoming young leaders of the Ukrainian Community in Ireland, working with the Irish Red Cross, writing for The Irish Times and learning Irish dancing!Â
