Community Training Centres and Youth Reach Limerick and Tipperary taking part in their Mini Olympics #BeTheArrow challenge! 😄🙌 #Gaisce40

Gaisce alumni, friends and family are coming together for #BeTheArrow to take on a 5KM hike in memory of the late Captain Cian Timmons, called Captain Cian’s Challenge.
Captain Cian was a true Gaisce Ambassador. He was a Gaisce Awardee, a PAL, a Council Member, and a dedicated volunteer and friend. Beyond Gaisce, he was also a proud member of @seascoutingsi and @scoutingireland and a skilled Master Mariner, part of Honourable Company Of Master Mariners @honourable_company_m_m .
He consistently showed up, supported those around him, and believed deeply in the power of encouraging others. In just 35 years, Captain Cian achieved so much – and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him.
We are lucky to have had him in our lives, and his legacy lives on in the many people he inspired.
Donations in aid of the Gaisce SUAS Bursary Fund are open until 31 May. You`re warmly invited to take part in this inspiring Be The Arrow initiative on June 7th: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/catherinesweeney2

From TY to Korea, Buckingham Palace to the Camino, Peadar Ó Lamhna’s Gaisce journey took him far beyond what he imagined when he first signed up to “just try”!
Peadar`s Gaisce Journey:
I first heard of Gaisce in TY – back when our coordinator Geraldine Garvey (RIP) rallied the whole year to give it a go. She encouraged us to take on a challenge and get the most out of TY, and being someone who’s always up for testing myself, I signed up. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to achieve when I started my Bronze Award in 2008, but the early mornings, weekly commitments and mad decision to do my Gold Award in reverse definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. I swam my way through all three levels, trained up as a Water Safety Examiner (the youngest in the country at the time), and hiked the Camino before it was cool. Somewhere along the way, I ended up at the International Gold Event in Korea, joined the global board, and even met the Queen. Gaisce’s taken me from UCD campus events to hostels in Spain, and from Buckingham Palace to reconnecting with Award friends in Canada. Not bad for something I signed up for “just to try”.
Now, what he`s doing for #BeTheArrow:
"For my Be The Arrow challenge, I`ll be taking part in Captain Cian`s Challenge along with a number of Awardees and friends that I met along my own Gaisce Journey over 15 years ago!"
