Gaisce Story – Gaisce Awardee Julie Reddan

“For me it was life changing.”

Gaisce Awardee Julie Reddan achieved her Gold Award in 2019 with Borrisokane Community College, Tipperary.

As part of our 35th Anniversary celebrations, Julie contacted us via our Gaisce Story Portal to share her fondest moments of taking part in Gaisce – The President’s Award. Our Gaisce Story Portal helps us to collect and share the amazing stories and memories that our Participants, Awardees and PALs have had with Gaisce – The President’s Award during our 35 years.

During her Gaisce journey, Julie took park in drama, cleaned halls in her local community and she went to the gym.

Julie’s Adventure Journey saw her travel 80km over 4 days and 3 nights. She started her journey in Dublin and finished in Daingean, Offaly. She recalled how one of her most memorable experiences was finishing the Adventure Journey. She could passionately recall the great “feeling I got when I finished walking 80km.”

The Residential Project saw Julie travel to Romania to help those that were less fortunate than her. Remembering the experience, Julie wrote that “I travelled to Romania with Habitat for Humanity Ireland, who are in partnership with Gaisce. We flew into Bacau airport and travelled to Comanesti, where we spent five days building a house for four families.” The experience left a strong impact on Julie, as she says, “the feeling I got from helping others in need will stay with me forever.”

While on her Gaisce journey, Julie received several other accolades, which included the “Tipperary Garda Youth Award, National Garda Youth Award, John Paul II Award and a hidden hero award for some of my charity work and helping in my local community.”
